Bodegas Vinícola Real is a prestigious family winery founded in 1989 by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez in Albelda de Iregua, La Rioja. The winery is internationally renowned for its 200 Monges label, named in honor of the 200 monks of the historic Monastery of San Martín de Albelda, who handwrote the Codex Vigilanus in 976 AD.

This Gran Reserva 1996 is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 5% Garnacha. It was aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels.

The bottle is in excellent condition and has been stored in a temperature-controlled wine cellar.

Older vintages of 200 Monges are difficult to find due to high demand and limited production. From the 1996 vintage, only 3,100 bottles (75 cl) were produced.
