Castell del Remei is a century-old winery located on a historic estate within the Costers del Segre Designation of Origin, where the earliest evidence of winemaking activity dates back centuries.
It is the oldest winery in Catalonia dedicated to the production of fine aged wines and the first Catalan winery built according to the Bordeaux château model, surrounded by vineyards.
The winery uses grapes from its own estate and from mountain vineyard plots belonging to the property. It is managed by its owner, the winegrower Tomás Cuisiné, a renowned winemaker considered one of the finest wine blenders in Spain.
This bottle dates from the early 1930s and displays an extraordinary fill level. The label is slightly faded due to its age, while the wine, when viewed against the light, remains lively and bright in color.
The bottle has been stored in a wine cellar at a constant temperature. The term“Extra” on the label was a commercial designation commonly used at that time. It was also common practice to display awards on wine labels; in this case, the bottle bears the Grand Prize of 1929. Although we cannot determine precisely how long the wine was aged in oak barrels, we estimate between 24 and 36 months, followed by further bottle maturation. It is estimated that 8,000-9,000 bottles were produced.
The bottle is in an exceptional state of preservation.
