Contino Vineyards and Wineries was founded in 1973, becoming the first château-style winery in Rioja. It is an old manor house located in Laserna, in the district of Laguardia, surrounded by 62 hectares of vineyards in a bend of the Ebro River, from which all of its wines are produced. The winery’s underground cellars date back to the 16th century and are among the oldest in Rioja, where the wines age under optimal conditions before being released to the market. It is owned by the historic winery C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España).

This 1989 Gran Reserva is made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo, and 5% Graciano. Fermentation took place in concrete tanks, followed by 3 years of aging in French and American oak barrels. After bottling, the wine spent more than 36 months in the winery’s historic underground cellars before being released for sale.

Excellent preservation condition, stored in a wine cellar at a constant controlled temperature.
