Bodegas Rafael López de Heredia Viña Tondonia was founded in 1877 in Haro by Don Rafael López de Heredia. This historic winery represents the purest classic tradition of the Rioja Denomination of Origin. Since its beginnings, it has been a family estate, currently managed by the fourth generation, represented by the three López Heredia Montoya siblings (María José, Mercedes, and Julio). Bodegas López de Heredia uses grapes grown in its own vineyard, acquired by the founder’s great-grandfather. Staying true to tradition, they are committed to artisanal production, fermenting in wooden vats, manual racking, and very long aging periods in barrel and bottle. López de Heredia handcrafts its own barrels, being the only winery in Spain with its own cooperage workshop. Their red, white, and even rosé wines are recognized for their extraordinary longevity. Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 2001 Blanco is one of the greatest white wines in Spain and the world—a true oenological gem. Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is only produced in exceptional vintages and in very limited quantities. This wine ages for ten years in American oak barrels made by the winery itself. It undergoes two racking per year and is bottled unfiltered. The blend is composed of Viura (85%) and Malvasia (15%), all from their own vineyards planted in 1913 and 1914.

2001 is being rated as an Excellent vintage by the Consejo Regulador.
