La Rioja Alta SA is one of the oldest wineries in La Rioja. Founded in the 19th century, specifically in 1890, it is one of the most historic and prestigious wineries in the Spanish wine world. Its brands are synonymous with exceptional quality. A pioneering winery in the production of fine wines for over 125 years, its portfolio includes the Gran Reserva 904 and Gran Reserva 890. Other notable brands from the winery include Viña Arana, Viña Ardanza, and Viña Alberdi.

The 1890-1990 Edition is a special bottling commemorating the winery's centenary. Made with the 1973 harvest, the wine underwent fermentation and malolactic fermentation in the winery's original foudres for 24 months, followed by 120 months of aging in American oak barrels. The wine was bottled in mid-1986 and released to the market in 1990.
