La Rioja Alta SA is one of the oldest wineries in La Rioja. Founded in the 19th century, specifically in 1890, it is one of the most historic and prestigious wineries in the Spanish wine world. Its brands are synonymous with exceptional quality. A pioneering winery in the production of fine wines for over 125 years, its portfolio includes the Gran Reserva 904 and Gran Reserva 890. Other notable brands from the winery include Viña Arana, Viña Ardanza, and Viña Alberdi.

The winery describes the 1985 vintage as excellent, comparable to the 1970 vintage. The grape varieties used are 85% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, and Graciano. It was aged for 60 months in American oak (from March 1986 to March 1991) and bottled in April 1991.
