Bodegas Carlos Serres is a century-old winery founded in 1896 and located in Haro (La Rioja). The winery is named after its founder, Carlos Serres. Of French origin, Carlos Serres settled in La Rioja in 1885, escaping the phylloxera that devastated French vineyards. From its beginnings, the winery had an export vocation and became one of the leading figures in bringing the name of Rioja to different countries; in fact, it was the first winery registered as an exporter.
Currently, the owners of the winery are the Vivanco family, who continue the legacy of Carlos Serres.
This 1973 Gran Reserva is composed mainly of Tempranillo, with a small percentage of Graciano and Mazuelo. The 1973 vintage was not declared very good at the time, but over the years, the wine has aged very well and is now sought after by lovers of old Rioja wines.
