La Rioja Alta S.A. is one of the oldest wineries in La Rioja. Founded in the 19th century, specifically in 1890, it is among the most historic and prestigious wineries in the Spanish wine world. Its brands are synonymous with exceptional quality. The winery has pioneered the production of fine wines for over 125 years. Within its range, the 'Gran Reserva 904' and 'Gran Reserva 890' stand out. Other notable brands from the winery include Viña Arana, Viña Ardanza and Viña Alberdi.

The winery rates the 1985 vintage as excellent, comparable to the 1970 vintage. The grape varieties used are 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo and Graciano. Aged for 60 months in American oak (from March 1986 to March 1991), bottled in April 1991.

The bottle is in good condition, with the liquid level at the upper shoulder.
