Bodegas Rafael López de Heredia Viña Tondonia was founded in 1877 in Haro by Don Rafael López de Heredia. This historic winery embodies the purest classical tradition of the Rioja Designation of Origin. From its beginnings, it has been a family estate, currently managed by the fourth generation, represented by the three López Heredia Montoya siblings (María José, Mercedes, and Julio). Bodegas López de Heredia uses grapes grown in its own vineyard, acquired by the founder’s great-grandfather. True to tradition, they are committed to artisan winemaking, fermenting in wooden vats, manual rackings, and very long ageing periods in barrel and bottle. López de Heredia handcrafts its own barrels, being the only winery in Spain with its own cooperage workshop. Its red, white, and even rosé wines are renowned for their extraordinary longevity. Without doubt, López de Heredia wines are highly valued, sought after, and considered essential for any wine enthusiast or professional’s cellar.

The Tondonia 6th Year are what we now know as the Tondonia Reserva, released to the market in their sixth year. These 6th Year bottles are mostly from the 1960s and 1970s.
